Congratulations on your new reverse osmosis drinking water system! A few things to know.
Congratulations on your new Hydrotech TFC drinking water system. We are sure you will enjoy the convenience of having fresh purified great tasting water at your fingertips.
As you may know, your system utilizes a 4 stage process, including sediment filtration, pre-carbon filtration, reverse osmosis and post carbon filtration for a very thorough removal of contaminants. The process also increases the oxygen surrounding the H20 molecule, which gives the water a fresh sweet taste.
Reverse Osmosis cleans and polishes your water molecule by molecule, which is why a holding tank is needed to store water that has been purified. The tank holds 1.5-2.8 gallons (depending on your line pressure), and takes 2-8 hours to fill, depending on water pressure, temperature and other factors. The system will be triggered to produce more water when the pressure in the tank goes below 1/3 that of line pressure, and will stop filling when the pressure in the tank reaches 2/3 that of line pressure. If you will be needing a lot of water at a given time, emptying the tank partially or fully several hours before, will stimulate the system to produce to the maximum tank capacity. It is beneficial to empty out the tank completely occasionally.
With proper upkeep and maintenance, your system can last a lifetime. The maintenance requirements of your system are as follows; The sediment and carbon filters need to be replaced every 6 months and the membrane needs to be replaced every 2-5 years.
We will notify you when your system is due for filter changes (every 6 months). Our service technicians can perform filter changes for you (which includes a complete system check), or you can pick up or order filters and change them out yourself. Regular filter changes are important in order to protect the membrane from sediment damage, to help prevent bacteria growth, as well as to get the maximum removal of chlorine and VOC's (Volatile Organic Chemicals) and to keep the system functioning optimally.
The filters needed for your system are (in most cases); one 5 Micron Sediment Filter and two CTO 10 Micron Carbon Block Filters. The membrane your system uses is a TFC (Thin Film Composite). It is designed for use with non-chlorinated water supplies (which is why you have a carbon pre-filter to remove the chlorine from the water entering the membrane), and is rated to last 2-5 years (and can last longer in some areas), depending on feed water quality, usage and maintenance. The membrane needs to be kept wet and thrives when it has a steady flow of water going across it to flush away impurities. The more you use it, the better!
The 'Smartap' quality monitor will indicate whether your membrane is functioning optimally or not (it does not indicate anything about the need for filter changes). If you would like a specific reading of your membrane's rejection rate (removal of dissolved solids) just bring in or send us a sample of both your tap and your purified water (4oz. of each in a clean plastic or glass container) and we can test it for you on the spot, or call you with the results at no charge.
Following is information on the warranty for your system.
Your system carries a 2 year limited warranty by the manufacturer, which means that they will replace parts that are faulty due to manufacturing defect. Labor is not included in the manufacturer's warranty, however U.S. Pure Water extends a 1 year service warranty on labor for repair or replacement of parts that are faulty due to manufacturing defect.
Your membrane (the original one, as well as each new one) carries a 1 year warranty. If membrane replacement is necessary due to manufacturing defect at any time during the first year, membrane will be replaced at no charge to customer.
All work performed by U.S. Pure Water Corporation carries a 1 year warranty (excluding problems that arise from pre-existing plumbing conditions).
All warranties are based on normal use of the system, under the following conditions: water pressure of 35-100 PSI, water temperature of 40-100°, feed water pH of 3-11, total dissolved solid count of 2,000 or less. Warranty is voided if maintenance requirements stated above are not met, and if damage is due to neglect, abuse, misuse/misapplication, tampering, accident, natural disasters, or water conditions that jeopardize the unit such as; excessive sediment due to construction work or fire; iron; and bacterial attack. Warranty is void if anyone other than authorized U.S. Pure Water technicians alters the system. Please see conditions outlined in accompanying manufacturer's warranty.
If you have any questions or additional water treatment needs, please call us anytime or drop by the store. Our business is based on satisfied customers and their referrals. If you refer someone to us who buys a reverse osmosis system, you will receive 1 free set of filters.
